It’s been just over a year since Marissa Mayer took over as the CEO of Yahoo. Her appointment has seemingly had an extremely positive effect on the company’s fortunes. Speculation was rife that Yahoo might not be able to reclaim its position in the tech market, but the past 14 months have changed the scenario. Not only has the company’s stock price doubled, but its web traffic is up by a whopping 20%. This is a surprising turnaround as the traffic for Yahoo had been on the decline for the past few years.
According to the search data from July, Yahoo has already displaced Google at the number-one spot in the US in terms of search. Mayer recently stated that Yahoo has 800 million active monthly users across the globe. Around 350 million of them use Yahoo through mobile devices. One thing which comes to mind is whether the websites Yahoo has acquired in the last year or so have had any effect on their traffic. Well, the numbers don’t include Tumblr, a popular website with millions of visitors.
What this means for webmasters is that they have to change their search engine marketing techniques a little. From the way things appear at this given moment, there is no doubt that Yahoo is on the rise and the trend doesn’t seem likely to change anytime soon. Google has dominated the search market in such a way that webmasters and online marketers dedicate their efforts towards getting ranked on it. However, with Yahoo coming back into the picture, and that too at the top, webmasters should sit up and take notice.
